• Dyed Silk Scarves by Harebell Designs

    Josie Hitchcock

Josie and her husband moved to Glentrool in 2008. During her first year here, she attended a Christmas Fair at Kirroughtree where she met a lady who belonged to the Wigtownshire Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers.

After attending their monthly meeting, Josie learnt how to spin and shortly thereafter acquired her own spinning wheel and loom and learnt to weave. Since then she has produced items such as shawls, shoulder bags, scarves all of which are on sale at the Glentrool Hive.

  • Jayne Store

I attended silversmithing courses at Hillsborough College, Sheffield, and from this developed my interest in making silver jewellery.

My aim is to learn new techniques and styles for silver jewellery, and I look forward to having a home studio in which to experiment and develop my skills. Meanwhile, I enjoy making a variety of items when time allows, as although ‘retired’ I am still working in healthcare locally. I have sold jewellery at craft fairs in and around Sheffield and am excited to explore Dumfries and Galloway for inspiration and new markets.

  • Magghi Mclean

Puffinpatchworks was set up in 2010 by Magghi Mclean in Edinburgh to design and sell quilt and cushions.

Magghi now lives in Galloway and the business has moved on too, but the ethos still remains to recycle and reuse fabric to create unique and beautiful gifts.

The designs now include quilts of all sizes, patchwork and applique cushions, simple and tactile embroidered textile art and a new venture into printed cards of her designs.

From commission quilts to a single card - there is something for everyone!

I was born in Hampshire and have lived in north east Essex, mid Wales, Gloucestershire and Dumfries and Galloway where I have now settled.

Over successive years my commitment to printmaking grew and in 1998 I bought my own press. I became a full time artist in 2006 when I moved to Port William, in South West Scotland, following redundancy

  • Sarah Anderson

I grew up in Galloway (South-West Scotland) surrounded by peaceful woodland, rugged moorland and beautiful coastline. I graduated from Edinburgh University with an M.A.(Hons) in Fine Art in 1999. A very successful degree show inspired me to commit myself to painting. I primarily paint from a studio in my house.

My inspiration is derived from the magnificent Scottish landscape, particularly the west coast. The recurring themes in my work reflect the dramatic effects of weather on the mountains and shorelines, trees and of course my favourite place, Edinburgh.
